Feet First - New Blog Writer Introduction

How many times have you walked past somewhere that calls to you, longing to step inside and see what it’s all about before you summon the courage to try? This was my reality for the six years I lived in Cardiff before obligations to a friend and a new year’s resolution persuaded me to cross the threshold. Let me be real - this was the best decision I have ever made.

Before we dive into that, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Demi and I started my Parkour journey at Fluidity Freerun Academy in January 2026, attending adult classes twice a week and got the bug (and a membership) within only 2 sessions! This is a story I hear time and time again from customers - parkour just grips you in a way no other sport has for themselves or their child - gymnastics, team sports… Nothing scratches the itch like pushing yourself to your physical and mental limits surrounded by a supportive community that cheers you on regardless of what you are working on in your training. The best part? When those mental breakthroughs begin to transfer to your own life, it truly is groundbreaking.

Slowly but surely, I made my presence known by coming down to train at open sessions, checking out the other events and sessions on offer and feeling the pull to return as much as I could squeeze into my work schedule. It wasn’t long before I was given the opportunity to help out as a crew member on Sundays. Those were some exhausting months;  working another physically and emotionally demanding job while keeping up with training, classes and learning the ropes of an industry I was brand new to. I was dedicated - and making that choice to focus on the sport I loved was paying off in how I began to feel about myself too.

Every time I trained and the more folk I met and got to know each week, the more I felt like I belonged. I owe so much to everyone that has welcomed me with respect and encouragement into the sport. The very essence of Parkour is the community - from the quiet and consistent showing up to the loud celebrations after unlocking something you never imagined you could achieve. As my confidence in Parkour increased, so did my own. I began to imagine what my life could look like if I fully committed to this newfound passion.

A few months down the road, my life changed drastically -  I could finally take the leap into a new career, switching from childcare and teaching in a school to becoming a coach here at Fluidity Freerun Academy - the only parkour gym of its kind in Wales and the largest in the UK. Now, I have the privilege to call it a home.

Nobody could have predicted this venture into conquering new fears, heights and movement: least of all me. I want to shout about it from the rooftops! For now, this blog will do. I hope you jump in and follow along as I cover topics to keep you updated on everything we get up to here at Fluidity, the wider community, the benefits, debates and so much more- with your input too!

Go send,

Demi
